Bicycling.
Great for you and great fun.

Remember when we were kids and first learned to ride a bicycle?  Coasting down the slopes of our small town, racing with our friends, breeze in our hair, sitting back on the seat and slowly letting the bars go… When is the last time you got on your trusty steed and rode like the wind?
The bicycle. Used by many for many reasons. Commuting, exercise, exploration, family fun, freedom. The cost ranges from FREE to “The Sky’s the Limit”  and Spring is the perfect time to get started.

Of course, Bergen County is packed full of bike paths: Saddle River Bike Path: The Saddle River Area Bike Path in Bergen County stretches for nearly 6 miles along a 577-acre linear park system that hugs the banks of the Saddle River and its tributaries. There are actually five park areas linked by the multi-use path, which travels from East Ridgewood, near the duck pond, south the Rochelle Park.  The path runs through Ridgewood, Glen Rock, Fair Lawn, Paramus, Saddle Brook and Rochelle Park along the Saddle River and Ho-Ho-Kus Brook. It also passes the historic Easton Tower on Route 4. At Dunkerhook Park you’ll find a nice waterfall. The trail also includes ponds, shaded picnic areas, pavilions, playgrounds, tennis courts and athletic fields.

Of course, Bergen County has lots of bike clubs: Affiliation with a bike club is a wonderful way to enjoy recreational biking. They often provide valuable local information for bicyclists as well as opportunities for social activities and improving skills.

Of course, Bergen County has lots of cycling events and local tours:  In addition to their many weekly club rides, they offer weekend (and longer) tours, led by club volunteers, as well as large cycling events like – the Ramapo Rally.

And of course, Bergen County has plenty of bike shops to visit and shop in!

Ready to get out there and see the world? There are hundreds of multi-day tours to choose from. Go at it alone or pack up the family. From Alaska to Texas and up to Maine, the tour options are endless. Go party with the Amish – go tour the covered bridges of New Hampshire – do what you have always dreamed of – Ride that Bike!

A wonderful way to escape the day to day stress of day to day life and a perfect way to bond with your loved ones.  An easy way to exercise, a different way to see the world around you, and what a fantastic way to commute and save on gas, pollution, parking costs and road rage!! (it happens to be HUGE in Japan)

Happy Peddling!
